JEDDAH: Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman met with Sudan’s transitional council leader, Gen. Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, on Friday, following the Sudanese Armed Forces’ announcement that they had regained full control of Khartoum.
The meeting took place at Al-Safa Palace in Makkah, where the two leaders discussed the latest developments in Sudan and ongoing efforts to restore security and stability, according to the report.
They also explored opportunities for bilateral cooperation and agreed to establish a coordination council to strengthen ties between their nations.
Al-Burhan, who also leads the SAF, visited the recaptured presidential palace in Khartoum on Wednesday after his forces reclaimed it from the Rapid Support Forces.
He declared the capital free of RSF fighters, a claim the army confirmed on Thursday after clearing the city of remaining paramilitary presence.
Sudan has been embroiled in a civil war since April 2023, when fighting broke out between the SAF and the RSF. The RSF initially took control of Khartoum and other areas, but the army launched a counteroffensive last year to reclaim lost territory.
Saudi Arabia has played a key role in mediating peace talks, previously hosting several rounds of negotiations in an effort to end the conflict, which has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and displaced more than 12 million people.
